Resources Used Every Day in My First Grade Classroom
I love my fair share of “just for fun” learning resources, but I’m rounding up a few things that are non-negotiables and are used daily or weekly in my first grade classroom. Check them out below!
CHAMPS and Step by Step Visual Directions
These CHAMPS cards and Step By Step Visual Direction Cards are necessary for creating a calm classroom environment. Everyone should be on task and know what the expectations are after setting your CHAMPS and displaying your directions for each activity.
Project and Trace (Or Print) Anchor Charts
There are over 800 charts in this pack! They are interactive so you can fill them out with students, and there’s one for every possible topic! Project and Trace them, or print them and fill them out on a document camera, or print them in poster size. SO many options, so many ways to use them!
Reading and Math Tool Kits
All the reading and math tools that students need right at their fingertips. These are easy to put together and have students use all year long so that they always have what they need.
Mini Student Sound Walls
Sound walls that are student-sized! There are several options included, and this set also includes over 1000 sound wall card options for you to build your own sound wall.
For more info on Sound Walls, visit my blog here.
Question of the Day Math Graphing Center
Graphing and data analysis usually gets brushed over pretty quickly, but it is so important! This question of the day center allows students to interact with a graph each day and answer a question, then use the data to create different graphs and answer/write questions about it. This is a math center that is visited daily.
Read more about the math graphing center here.
Student Data Tracking Binders
No better way to see student growth than to track it in a data tracking binder! There are sooo many options of different things to track in this pack. It makes conference time a breeze, because you can just pull out the binder and discuss student performance.
Decodable Reading Passages
Reading comprehension is important, but it is even more meaningful when the passages are entirely decodable. These decodable reading passages include tons of phonics skills, and they build upon the skills learned throughout the year to increase the rigor of each passage. There are enough for students to have one every day!
Mapping Mats for Small Groups
We always have these mapping mats out during small groups. We use them as we come across words that we might not know and we map them so that we can properly decode them.
Decodable Handwriting Practice
Students need to practice handwriting, so why not practice reading at the same time? These formation and fluency handwriting practice pages are completely decodable ( the skills build upon each other as more phonics skills are introduced/mastered) so that students can ACTUALLY read them.
Daily Math Warm Up Slides
One of my favorite parts of math time! These daily math warm up slides follow a daily pattern and promote critical thinking and strategy sharing with others. There are lots of teacher tools included in this pack to ensure that your quick warm up time is meaningful!
Primary Reading Graphic Organizers
These graphic organizers can be used with any story and there are so many skills included! They also include options with handwriting lines for little writers.
Let me know if you add any of these resources to your classroom-
I would be so happy to hear how they are working out for you!
