Supplemental Math Activities for First Graders

Why is it that when district gives you math curriculum, it feels like they give you too much yet not enough all at the same time? I personally think it’s because each curriculum is written with a “one size fits all” approach when it comes to student learning styles. Not enough curriculums come with engaging, hands-on activities and resources that allow students to apply and practice what they have learned from those lessons. I’ve spent tons of time creating resources that were more appropriate for busy little hands and I’m sharing a few of my favorite low-prep options below!

Grab and Go Fact Fluency

This fact fluency center is a class favorite! I used the puzzle piece numbers from the Target Dollar Spot, but I also included paper numbers for you to print out if you don’t have the puzzle pieces. Students grab two numbers, write an equation, and add them together.

This resource comes with so many options too- practice addition (with two or three numbers), subtraction, multiplication, comparing numbers, etc!

Themed Daily Math Warm Up Slides

These monthly themed math warm up slides are done every day, and they really promote critical thinking, problem solving, and strategy sharing. The set comes with a teacher guide to help facilitate the short warm up each day.

Math Crafts

We looove craftivities in our classroom! They are great for review or introduction of math skills! I like to use math crafts as a way to check for understanding of math skills that are taught.

Print and Go Math Activities

These pages are zero prep, and they’re so much fun! with over 250 in the entire bundle, theres a math activity page for every math skill that you teach. Put these in math centers or your classroom busy bin.

Monthly Themed Print and Go Math Games

I keep these monthly themed math games in my math games center. They can be played individually or with a partner. Students love to see the monthly themed pages, and I love students to practice a variety of math skills each month.

Create and Count Math

Create and Count is a fun math center, busy bin activity, or morning start activity. There are so many cards to create in this big bundle! There’s even a graphing extension activity for students to graph their shape count data.

Monthly Themed Math Around the Room

This monthly themed math around the room activity is super cool because it is easy to set up, and there are tons of math skills included for each month, so no matter what you are learning in math currently, there’s a math around the room set for that skill.

Ex: if you are learning about 2D shapes this October, but you decide to switch up your scope and sequence and teach about Place Value next October, you’ll always have a themed set for whatever skill you need!

Differentiated Leveled Math Assessments

This is the jackpot of math resources! If you use a standards-based grading scale, and struggle with grading/assessing students in math- this resource lays it all out for you.

Each math concept included 3 different leveled assessments so that you can administer the correct assessment to each student (everyone starts with level one, then moves up).

Question of the Day Graphing Station

This is a great way for students to organize and analyze data each day. Students answer the question of the day by moving their piece on the pocket chart to answer the question of the day. Then students use that data to create a series of different graphs/charts. and to write and answer questions about the graph.

Math Fact Fluency Center

There are over 5,000 teachers currently using this math fact fluency center. Gone are the days where we are handed a timed test to assess math fact fluency. This center is easy to prep and can be used all year long.

Graphing Stations Bundle

There are tons of fun graphing stations in this set. Graphing and analyzing data is so important for students to understand, and this big bundle can help them do it daily.

Color By Codes

We love color by codes! These are great for fast finishers, or to put in your classroom busy bin. There are even holiday/season color by codes that make math fun!

Let me know if you end up using any of these resources in your classroom.

I would love to know how much you and your students are loving them!
